ICYMI: JOHN JAMES CALLS ON LANSING TO SUSPEND THE GAS TAX

James demands immediate relief for Michigan families and takes his message of affordability to the streets of Detroit with rapper 42 Dugg

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI — John James hit the streets of his hometown, riding through Detroit with rapper 42 Dugg before calling out Democrats in Lansing over their political games surrounding gas prices and demanding immediate relief at the pump.

Detroit ride-along with 42 Dugg

James joined Detroit rapper 42 Dugg for a ride through the city, talking about their experiences growing up in Detroit, what the city needs to thrive and John’s plans to deliver for Detroit as Governor.

The two also talked about why Detroiters should take a look at James, someone who was born and raised in the city, understands where Detroit has been and believes its best days are still ahead.

For John, earning Detroiters’ support means showing up, listening and making the case directly to the people who call the city home.

Stop fixing the blame. Fix the problem.

James then turned up the pressure on Democrats in Lansing over high gas prices, calling for immediate action to provide relief for Michigan families at the pump.

In a video posted on X, James called on Michigan Democrats to suspend the state gas tax:

“Michigan has some of the highest gas prices in the country and Michigan families are getting crushed at the pump. Enough is enough. Right now, I’m calling on Michigan Democrats to stop playing political games with your money and declare a state of emergency to suspend the state gas tax.”

— John James

James has called for the immediate suspension of BOTH the state and federal gas taxes, arguing that leaders in Lansing should focus on lowering costs instead of pointing fingers over who is to blame.

Democrats like Jocelyn Benson and Winnie Brinks are the reason why Michigan has the highest fuel prices across the country, some of the highest electricity rates in the country, and ranks 51st in electric grid reliability.

“Democrats have the power to suspend the state gas tax and they’re choosing not to. Do you know why? Because your pain is their plan. They just want an issue to campaign on.”

— John James
