MICHIGAN MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION ENDORSES JOHN JAMES FOR GOVERNOR
Manufacturers Know James’ Auto Supply Chain Business Experience Is Needed to Grow and Protect Manufacturing Jobs After 300,000 Lost In State
SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MI — The Michigan Manufacturers Association Board of Directors has endorsed John James for governor, four years after backing Democrat Gretchen Whitmer. The association said James’s agenda on economic growth, workforce development, innovation, regulatory certainty, and global competitiveness is the stronger fit for Michigan manufacturers in this election.
The endorsement adds to James’ growing momentum as he heads into tonight’s gubernatorial debate, where Michigan voters will see the clear contrast between his vision for economic and job growth and eight years of failed far left policy in Lansing.
The MMA Board concluded that James presented the “clearest vision for strengthening Michigan’s manufacturing economy and enhancing the state’s competitiveness on a global scale.”
“The choice is simple: Jocelyn Benson will protect a system that picks winners in Lansing and leaves workers to absorb the cost. I will stand with the men and women who build things in this state. MMA’s endorsement is a vote for lower costs, faster decisions, and a Michigan where the next generation of good-paying manufacturing jobs is built here, by Michigan workers.”
— John James
James brings firsthand private-sector experience to the race. Before serving in Congress, he grew his family’s Michigan-based automotive supply-chain logistics business, giving him direct experience with the challenges facing employers, supply chains, and manufacturers.
That stands in stark contrast to Jocelyn Benson, who would double down on the same Lansing agenda that has driven up the cost of doing business, made energy more expensive and unreliable, and pushed jobs and investment out of Michigan. At a time when Michigan is competing with states across the country for jobs and opportunity, Benson would make Michigan less competitive.
“Manufacturing remains the backbone of Michigan’s economy, and our members are looking for leadership that recognizes both the opportunities and challenges facing our industry. John James articulated a deep understanding of the value that manufacturers bring to our state and presented a policy platform that will strengthen our industry for the betterment of all Michiganders. The Board believes his vision aligns strongly with the priorities of Michigan manufacturers and the future prosperity of our state.”
— Patrick Curry, President of Saginaw-based Fullerton Tool and Chair of the MMA Board of Directors
“MMA envisions a future where manufacturers thrive in the nation’s most connected, competitive, and future-ready environment. Our Board believes John James demonstrated a clear understanding of what it will take to create that future for Michigan. His commitment to fostering economic growth, supporting innovation, and positioning Michigan as a leader in advanced manufacturing resonated strongly with our membership.”
— John Walsh, MMA President & CEO
Michigan has lost hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs over the past several decades. The Michigan Manufacturers Association knows what is at stake: Michigan needs policies that make it easier to build, hire, invest, and grow here.
John James is running to bring good-paying manufacturing jobs back to Michigan and make our state a manufacturing powerhouse again. Jocelyn Benson has backed policies that would increase costs and make Michigan less competitive.
Tonight, Michigan voters will hear that contrast directly. James will lay out his plan to bring jobs and opportunity back to Michigan and ensure the next generation can build their future right here at home. Watch live on WOODTV.com at 7:00 PM.
