Biography
Jay DeBoyer is a small business owner, former clerk and township supervisor, and current State Representative who has built a reputation for demanding accountability and fighting to protect Michigan taxpayers. Now serving his second term representing the 63rd House District in St. Clair and Macomb counties, Jay serves as Chairman of the powerful House Oversight Committee, where he has made rooting out waste, fraud, abuse, mismanagement, and failures of government a central focus of his work.
Under Jay’s leadership, House Oversight has pursued investigations into state agencies and officials, examined problems within the Michigan State Police and Department of Health and Human Services, scrutinized the use of taxpayer dollars, and pushed for greater transparency from Michigan’s executive branch. The committee was granted broad subpoena authority and established specialized subcommittees to investigate issues ranging from corporate subsidies and state investments to the weaponization of government and public assistance programs. Jay has also championed stronger protections for whistleblowers who expose wrongdoing inside state government.
Jay brings decades of real-world experience to the mission. Before serving in the Legislature, he spent 12 years as St. Clair County Clerk and Register of Deeds, where his responsibilities included overseeing elections. He previously served as both a trustee and supervisor in Clay Township and has owned a small business specializing in engineered lumber since 1994. That combination of private-sector, local-government, election-administration, and legislative experience gives Jay a firsthand understanding of how the government should serve the people who pay for it.
Jay is married and has two children. He is an avid hunter, fisher, and boatsman.
